Sirmakko reindeer farm is not just a farm, but a real nature reserve, where you can see reindeer in their natural habitat, learn a lot about their way of life and get acquainted with the life of indigenous people of Lapland – the Saami. Both adults and children get new sensations and bright emotions here.
Reindeer have always played an important role for local aborigines. By the way, even today it is not lost, because in the severe winter time it is possible to get through the snowy heaps only on them.
By the way, the word “sirmakko” is the name of the friskiest reindeer that has just been born.
The visitors to the farm have a unique chance to observe the animals and get acquainted with their habits, see how the reindeer breeders take care of them, and even feed young calves from the hands. But excursion along the territory of the zapovednik is only a part of the program. The main entertainment is trip on a reindeer-drawn carriage along snowy dales, leading to the Arctic Circle. It starts early in the morning and ends around 17:00. There is plenty of time to enjoy the pristine beauty of the Lapland nature, learn how to give the reindeer commands, and taste the wonderful pancakes on the pass with milk-spiced coffee.
At the end of the tour guests have a small rite of passage to Laplanders and go to rest. There is a small cabin for rent, a banquet hall and a souvenir shop selling goods with farm symbols.
